In ricordo delle vittime di Nassirya
I caduti di Nassiriya sono un “esempio di mirabile dedizione al senso del dovere e all’amor
patrio”. E’ quanto afferma il presidente della Repubblica Giorgio Napolitano in un messaggio inviato al ministro della Difesa Arturo Parisi nel terzo anniversario della strage. I 19 italiani che trovarono la morte nell’attentato “donarono il bene supremo della vita ispirandosi a un nobile intento di pace e mirando a sostenere la rinascita e il progresso civile dello stato iracheno”, aggiunge il capo dello Stato. E ancora: “Il 12 novembre 2003 il popolo italiano testimoniò la sua profonda partecipazione al dolore delle famiglie, affrante dalla perdita dei loro cari, con un forte coinvolgimento emotivo, confermando ancora una volta l’affetto e la fiducia che il Paese nutre per i suoi giovani in uniforme, chiamati a garantire valori fondamentali sanciti dalla Costituzione repubblicana, anche lontano dai confini nazionali”. “E’ con tali sentimenti – conclude Napolitano – e con intensa vicinanza che la prego, signor ministro, di voler rendersi interprete del commosso tributo di riconoscenza alle Forze armate e della sentita solidarietàalle famiglie da parte dell’intera nazione italiana e mio personale”.
Il premier Romano Prodi da parte sua sottolinea che “non dobbiamo dimenticare”. Alla cerimonia di commemorazione dei caduti di Nassiriya a Bologna, il capo del governo rimarca che “questi ragazzi hanno sacrificato la loro vita. Genitori e fratelli mi hanno chiesto se questo non sia dimenticato e noi non dobbiamo dimenticarlo”. E spiega di avere “espresso ai familiari dei nostri ragazzi morti il dolore e la partecipazione di tutti gli italiani”.
Prodi, che si è intrattenuto per qualche minuto con alcuni parenti delle vittime, fa sapere anche che proprio loro gli hanno chiesto “che siano approfonditi tutti i dettagli su come sono caduti” i loro ragazzi. “E anche questo – aggiunge il premier – deve essere fatto”. Il presidente del Consiglio ricorda anche che “abbiamo adesso tante missioni all’estero. E’ chiaro che c’è un impegno forte di custodire il più possibile la vita e l’integrità di quelli che sono impegnati in queste missioni”.
Il terzo anniversario della strage, in cui persero la vita 12 carabinieri, 5 militari dell’esercito e due civili, è stato celebrato anche a Roma, dove il ministro della Difesa Arturo Parisi ha deposto una corona d’alloro all’Altare della patria. “E’ un omaggio doveroso che
dobbiamo ai nostri concittadini che sono andati in Iraq a nome di tutti noi per conto di tutti noi, a nome dell’Italia al servizio della Repubblica”, ha spiegato in seguito Parisi. E ancora: “Un popolo che non ricorda i suoi caduti non ha diritto ad un avvenire. Questo e solo questo è il significato, un significato che dobbiamo coltivare e sviluppare nel tempo. Loro sono con noi per sempre”.
Le commemorazioni sono state precedute da vivaci polemiche. La Casa delle Libertà ha accusato il governo di aver organizzato “celebrazioni in tono minore”. E il leader dell’Udc Pier Ferdinando Casini ha sostenuto che lo Stato dovrebbe chiedere scusa ai familiari delle vittime. E oggi lo ha ribadito il presidente di An Gianfranco Fini: “Era doveroso da parte del governo fissare una manifestazione per consentire a tutti di rendere omaggio ai martiri di Nassiriya. Derubricare questa ricorrenza ad iniziativa quasi privata è sintomo di insensibilità”.
Accuse alle quali la maggioranza ha risposto anche oggi. Ad esempio con il vice presidente della Camera Pierluigi Castagnetti: “Nessuno mette in discussione il lutto per i caduti di Nassiriya. Non c’è da chiedere scusa perché non è stata consumata nessuna offesa nei confronti dei caduti. Mi pare quindi che oggi ci sia un tentativo di strumentalizzazione che è assolutamente fuori luogo”.

Penso che chiunque abbia deciso di mettere questa lapide, sia una componente dal cuore sensibile. Questi ragazzi che sono morti avevano da svolgere un lavoro e un dovere, hanno lottato per la pace e sono contrario a coloro che hanno gridato nelle piazze: 1.000, 10.000, 100.000 Nassiriya.
